AMAZING RACE BLOG: The Morality of the Great Cab Heist

While navigating the rope course in Prague, brother team Sam and Dan gained some time on husband and wife team Brian and Ericka by stealing a cab that was waiting to the spouses away after completing the rope course.

Though Brian and Ericka would have most certainly come in last place regardless of the cab theft, what did you think about Sam and Dan's great cab heist? Though high moral standards are clearly not part of the rule book in reality show Survivor, what is the moral rubric in The Amazing Race? What did you think about Sam and Dan's great cab heist and would you have done the same for a chance at a million dollars?

I don't think stealing that cab was a smart idea. Playing dirty is sometimes acceptable but this time, it wasn't the best thing to do. Especially since they weren't downtown, it's hard to get an other taxi. However, playing dirty can be a strategy... Do you find this valuable?

There's the good sides and bad side to doing that. The good thing is that you're playing smart, you're playing a good game but the bad thing would be Karma's gonna come back and hunt you down, as simple as that.

I think it depends on whether Brian and Ericka paid the cabbie to wait. If they did, it was wrong of the cabbie to leave. If they promised him extra if he waited and the brothers promised him more to take them now - that's fair enough, B & E were just outbid. If he was just waiting around on nothing but the promise of a second fare, I think it is maybe not nice of S & D to take the cab, but not 'unfair', they get the benefit of the cab now but risk B & E taking it out on them later in the game. That's just playing the game and taking risks. Do you find this valuable?

After tonight's episode (11-29) the brothers have crossed the line of morality for the last time. It is a race for a million dollars but they have played dirty too many times. They argue like a two year olds. They do not deserve to win the million dollars. Hey brothers, every heard of karma? All your dirty moves are going to come back and bite you in the a__ in the finally.
