Globetrotters pay tribute to Flash Richardson

Date: 10/28/2009

Herbert and Nathaniel of the Harlem Globetrotters, aka Flight Time and Big Easy, have been paying tribute to the late Chris “Flash” Richardson this season. Richardson played basketball at UNLV.

Amazing Race News - The Amazing RaceFlight Time and Big Easy have worn shirts or necklaces with "CLR" on them as they travel around Tokyo, Phnom Penh, and Dubai.

Richardson, 28, passed away in December while on tour with the Globetrotters in Japan. Flash, Big Easy and Flight Time were so tight they were known as “The Three Amigos” among the Globetrotters.
“Hey, no problem,” Nathaniel wrote on his BlackBerry from somewhere in Asia. “Meeting and playing with Chris was special for me. It’s a small hello from us to his family and friends. That was part of why we did the show. Thanks for the e-mail. Much love.”

Mika and Canaan talk shop

Date: 10/27/2009

Just a couple of days after the wacky water slide elimination of Mika Combs and Canaan Smith, Reality TV World sat down for a lengthy interview with the couple, and asked some great questions, including of Canaan --just how pissed were you at Mika? (Ok, maybe I changed the wording some, but still, that's what we're all thinking):

Reality TV World: But you seemed to be doing just that when you guys were at the top of the waterslide and you were pushing her and yelling that she was going to make you lose the race. Did you have some kind of a change of heart on the way to the Pit Stop?

Canaan: I don't know. We're real human beings, and if something happens like that to any other competitive guy in the world they're going to be pissed off. You spend so much of your time and energy going around the world and a stupid waterslide is going to hold it up? So I was completely upset and I embraced my emotions at the top. But when I got to the bottom I realized Mika's got to be feeling the same way.

She's going to be feeling like she let me down. There's no worse feeling on the Earth than regret, and there's no worse action on my part than unforgiveness. Not working together would have been terrible for us individually and for our relationship. I'm forgiven for so many things in my life that it would be silly to not pass along forgiveness to Mika for not being able to overcome something that ultimately she had no control over.

The facts on Leap of Faith

Date: 10/26/2009

Around the world, and challenge after challenge, the promise of a million bucks ends with a water slide for Mika and Canaan. Granted, it's no min-golf water slide -- in fact it's a 27.5 meter, near vertical drop that dumps riders at speeds of 50 mph through shark-invested waters, but is it really $1 million scary?

Some facts about the Leap of Faith:
  • The sharks are Blacktip and Whitetip reef sharks that feed on jellyfish and sea urchin. No man-eaters here. In any event, riders eek through the shark pool at speeds of 50 mph in the safety of a Perspex tube.
  • Children 13 years or older and over 1.02 meters (about 3 and a half feet) are allowed to ride.

Jon Gosselin on "TAR"?

Date: 10/23/2009

jon gosselinRadarOnline is reporting news that almost made me lose my oatmeal this morning -- Jon Gosselin (a.k.a, the most overexposed man in America) plans to meet with CBS about appearing on a celebrity edition of one of the shows. Now, there are many problems with this story:

1) TAR has never done a celebrity edition, and though there have been rumors to that effect over the years, I don't know that one is in the works (anyone know differently?).

2) Jon Gosselin has proven that he can't navigate his way around 8 kids; I doubt he could navigate his way around the world.

3) Who would Jon race with? Michael Lohan, under the team heading "bad fathers"? It's hard to imagine his current girlfriend will last long enough to get through shooting.

As you can tell, I'm a little biased against this casting choice and would hope the producers and especially my beloved Phil wouldn't go for it. How do you think Jon would fare on the race? Would you want to see him on "TAR"?

Directionally challenged gets the boot

Date: 10/19/2009

Freshly eliminated from the Amazing Race, Lance Layne and Kerri Morrione sat down with TV Guide for an insightful interview about their recent directionless jaunt through Dubai, first off asking, "Are you normally 'directionally challenged' or was it just in Dubai?" Answers Keri, "It was a combination of highways and exhaustion. I normally am directionally challenged and Lance normally isn't."

Lance also admits to kicking the snowman...in fact, decapitating the snowman, "because the lady wouldn't clear us a bunch of times."

Other interesting did-you-knows...Lance and Keri married immediately after filming. Congrats to the well-traveled couple!

Jackie who?

Date: 10/14/2009
SOURCE: Read the full interview by The Deadbolt with Zev and Justin.

Can you believe there will come a day when when our great, great grandchildren won't recognize the face of Michael Jackson. Is it all that unthinkable?

No, it's not all that unlikely at all, given the fact that we're all still reeling from the last episode of Amazing Race when fewer than half of the teams could identify Jackie Kennedy.

Name this face!

Who? You know who I'm talking about...the lady waving from the car who's clearly a "queen or princess," maybe even Queen Elizabeth herself. No, no, it's not Queen Elizabeth, because this lady is "definitely somebody of Cambodian descent."

To Sean Penn, Cambodia...

Date: 10/14/2009
SOURCE: Read the full interview by The Deadbolt with Zev and Justin.

In an unfortunate mishap of events, long-time friends Zev Glassenberg and Justin Kanew trekked their way all the way to "Sean Penn," Cambodia, through crowded markets and monkey antics only to lose their lead due to a lost passport. (Rats! I hate it when that happens!)

In the end, our lovable duo figured that it slipped out of Justin's fanny pack while reaching for a flashlight in the monastery. But hey, their adventure was one to remember. After all, they now know what Sean Penn, Cambodia is like. According to Zev, "It was pretty cool. It's a nice little place."

Amazing Race Holds Strong in Ratings

Date: 10/12/2009

Amazing Race News - The Amazing RaceAs it has done in the past, Amazing Race continues to hold strong in the 8pm hour slot on CBS no matter when the show starts. With the lead in from the NFL game, the show had 13.1 million viewers and is 20th in the weekly ratings so far. The show would probably get a bigger boost from the DVR market but with an unsure start time due to the football game, it's difficult for DVR fans to know when to record the show. Either way, Amazing Race in it's 15th season is a big winner for CBS on Sunday nights.
